Five Things-ing
For the record, I do not need anymore Daniel icons. I need more icons of other Stargate people. And Kutner. I also do not need anymore Wilson icons. Somebody stop me please. Also, I'm done with the cold. I will be staying with
megthelegend until summer returns to my hemisphere. What? A girl can dream, can't she?
Fandom: SG-1
Pairing: Jack/Daniel
Rating: PG
Prompt: Five excuses Hammond pretended to believe when Jack and Daniel both showed up late, but only seconds apart
1. “Nice of you and Dr. Jackson to join us,” Hammond greeted as Jack and the errant archaeologist slipped into the briefing. Teal’c had already been listing the few facts he knew about the inhabitants of PX9-998 for ten minutes.
"Daniel was teaching me the standard greeting for the High Methuselah on PX9-998," Jack explained breezily, pointedly ignoring Dr. Jackson's attempt to correct the title. Hammond really, really wanted to believe him, but then the Colonel had to add. "It's quite a tongue-workout. I think I need more practice."
Even then the General may have convinced himself it was true if Major Carter hadn’t snorted. Hammond inwardly sighed and steered the briefing back on topic.
2. "Sorry, General," Daniel murmured apologetically. "I fell asleep on my couch last night. I'm surprised I heard my alarm from the living room at all."
"No problem, son," General Hammond told him, "We're still waiting for Colonel O'Neill anyway."
Daniel looked around in genuine surprise. He was scanning the room as if to confirm the Colonel's absence just as the man himself finally graced them with his presence.
"Sorry, gang. Had to stop by the infirmary. My back is killing me, slept on the couch last night."
Hammond schooled his face to blandness and pretended not to notice as Dr. Jackson spit his coffee all over the table.
3. Sgt. Harriman had been holding the gate open for a full five minutes before O'Neill and Jackson came into the gateroom, running full tilt. Hammond resisted the urge to roll his eyes as he explained, "Major Carter and Teal'c have gone on ahead to assure the Tok'ra ambassador of our full cooperation in this matter." When Jack only nodded absentmindedly while straightening his linguist's tac vest, Hammond added significantly, "And to make your apologies for being late."
At that, O'Neill (finally) snapped to attention. "Yes, sir. Thank you, sir."
"Jack mislaid his favorite sidearm," Jackson said apologetically. "I was helping him find it."
"In the future, try to be on time." Hammond reprimanded mildly. "Let the Colonel handle his own sidearm."
4. When both Jack and Daniel failed to show up for the post-mission briefing, Hammond tried not to think of the implications. He just reminded himself of their value to the program and hoped for a plausible explanation for their tardiness.
Later, he decided that whatever punishment Dr. Fraiser inflicted upon them for using her as an excuse was probably better than anything he could do. So he accepted their account of an unusually thorough examination and promised them he’d follow up with Janet later.
5. Hammond looked around the room fondly at the bravest men and women he’d ever had the honor of commanding. He certainly hadn’t been expecting the impromptu going away party he’d walked into earlier, but he was incredibly grateful for the display of love and respect he was now receiving. It seemed that everyone in the SGC had heard about the development in the cafeteria and had made an appearance. However, two people were conspicuously absent.
As if thinking about the men could summon them, Colonel Jack O’Neill crept into the room seconds behind one Dr. Daniel Jackson. Hammond smiled and nodded as Jack made some excuse about carpooling and flat tires, unreasonably happy in the knowledge that their abysmal time keeping skills were no longer his problem.
I also responded to Five things Teal'c told Ry'ac before he got married (J/D subtext) and Five times a member of SG-1 got left behind.
