Congrats on the new Kindle. I have a Nook and I love it. I know there's a more efficient way to do this, but here's how I do it from AO3.
Go to the fic itself. Find the download tab. Click on the format you want. (I think it's mobi for a Kindle, but a PDF should work for any e-reader.) Save the file where you want it on your computer. Hook up your Kindle to your computer. Upload your file.
