Earthquake!

I've been through my first (two!) earthquakes now.  I live in St. Louis, so that's a little over a hundred miles from the epicenter.  I woke up a little after four this morning because my bed was shaking.  I actually thought it was my dog itching or something, but it continued even after she jumped down.  The shaking had stopped even before I got out of bed.  I knew it was an earthquake right away, which kind of surprised me.  This isn't exactly an earthquake prone area.  The nearest fault line is in New Madrid and the last time it acted up was during the pioneer days.  (That was when the Mississippi appeared to run backwards with the force of the quakes).  But I guess there's only so many things that can shake the ground for an extended period, so maybe it's not too strange that my brain went straight to earthquake.

I checked on the dogs and everything seemed fine.  It was a 5.2 but it didn't strike me as bad here.  It might even have been neat if I hadn't been more asleep than awake.  We've only felt one aftershock here.  It was about an hour ago.  This one was a 4.5.  I wouldn't want to have one everyday, but there are definitely worse things I've been through (hurricane, tornado, flood).  I'll add this to my list of life experiences.  I hope no one was injured closer to the center of things.  Prayers & good wishes to those affected.

I just read a news story about this that said no major damage and no injuries reported so far.

And I remember the one earthquake I experienced - just like you, I woke up with everything vibrating, and the windows actually rattling in their frames. Weird!

I'm good. It was definitely eerie; I've never been through an earthquake. I just observed and interviewed at St. Teresa's where Peggy works. ^_^ We got to eat the same lunch period! Poor Peggy has a black eye, a bad one. She rain into a door. If you talk to her, you can ask her abuot it. It certainly looks painful.

Spoke to Ann-she felt the first one but didn't get the second out at the mall. You should call Jules, she's closing on her house today and seemed really down in the dumps yesterday.

Oh, the earthquake. I live in Southern Illinois (Marion, on the off chance you've heard of it) and it was totally unexpected.

P.S. I friended you - because of your stories on prsw22 but I'm not expecting to be friended back. I spend too much time whining about the things I should be doing and don't. Boring.

I know exactly where Marion is. I used to manage a Waldenbooks (my store closed) and Marion was in our district.

Ah, cool! Usually when I mention where I live, I just say Carbondale - it seems to be well-known compared to Marion.

I practically live in our Waldenbooks. A couple years ago the Carbondale one closed and I live in fear that this one will close. Just a random observation.
